Kuwait road accidents

Expressway 30 north of Ali Sabah al Salem, Grand Cherokee

Well I think it was a Trailblazer, but to be honest it's hard to tell. (In fact it's a Grand Cherokee, see comment from Mazda6 below)

It was really foggy this morning, so some kind of roadside chaos was to be expected, but this one is pretty fearsome. Bad, bad Milt drove past taking photos, which is a big no-no, not to mention ghoulish. Still, at least I didn't stop in the middle of the road and have to be chased off by the cops, like some of the other clowns.

Jeep Cherokee

And at the top of the bank, a Jeep Cherokee with damage corresponding to the wrecked side of the Kia. Guess this was the vehicle going straight through.

To be fair, when you're turning left the sign pointing to the 40 damn near completely obscures the view up the road when you're trying to check for oncoming traffic. So it's nothing unusual to pull out and then find the sign was concealing someone hurtling towards you well over the limit. Bad design, I guess.

Expressway 30, rear-ended Corolla

At the off-ramp for the 7th Ring in Fintas. This is what happens when one of those loonies starts tailgating you at 120 kph and then you have to stop suddenly. I hate these guys - you just have to picture your kids sitting happily in that back seat a second or two before Mr Crazed Mutant reduced that space to 0. The perpetrator gets saved by his airbag and probably isn't even hurt. Next week he's in a new car tailgating some other lucky motorist.

Expressway 30, Shuaiba, Crown Vic

This is the same Crown Vic as in the previous photo in my stream, taken on my way back to work in the morning. Ahmadi refinery in the background. To get this shot I broke one of my rules of shooting car wrecks - thou shalt not pull over to the centre divider. I've always thought the guys who pull across the fast lane and stop in the emergency lane so they can gawk at accidents on the other side of the road should be dragged from their vehicles and beaten with a tyre iron. Now even I'm doing it. I guess it's Kuwait's corrosive influence on good driving practice - but hey, there was hardly any traffic...

Expressway 30 by 6th ring offramp, Corvette

Another casualty of Tuesday's thunderstorm, I suspect. The fence is about 50 meters back from the northbound lanes, in this sea of mud. The front end of the car must be 6 inches deep in the mud, it'll be a bugger of a job getting it out of there.

Following the thunderstorm 3

It's surprising how hard it is to hold your camera still while also trying to hold your jacket up over your head. Pouring with rain, which is probably why this Altima ended up here. I'm taking the picture from close to a Jeep Liberty that was shoved across the barrier but otherwise not much damaged.
